Big Blow for Punjab Kings Star Player Ruled Out of IPL 2025 Due to Injury

Glenn Maxwell’s IPL 2025 campaign has come to an early end. The Australian all-rounder has been ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering a fractured finger during a recent match — a major blow for Punjab Kings ahead of their clash against Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk on Wednesday.

Maxwell was part of PBKS’s playing XI in their last outing against Kolkata Knight Riders but struggled once again. With just 48 runs in seven games and a highest score of 30, the big-hitting Aussie never really found his rhythm this season. His strike rate of 97.96 and batting average of just 8 underline how difficult things have been for him.

He hasn’t been able to make a huge impact with the ball either, picking up only four wickets at an average of 27.50. It’s safe to say that the ₹4.2 crore signing from the 2024 mega-auction hasn’t lived up to expectations. PBKS skipper Shreyas Iyer confirmed Maxwell’s absence at the toss in Chennai, saying, “Unfortunate that he's got a fractured finger. Haven’t decided on a replacement so far.”

The timing couldn’t be worse for Punjab, who are in the thick of the playoff race. And while they’ll now have to reshuffle their lineup, Maxwell will be left to reflect on a forgettable season that ended before he had the chance to turn things around.
