Dasun Shanaka Set to Join Gujarat Titans for IPL 2025

In what could be a timely reinforcement for Gujarat Titans, former Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka is reportedly all set to join the franchise for the remainder of the IPL 2025 season. According to a report from Newswire, Shanaka will replace New Zealand all-rounder Glenn Phillips, who picked up a groin injury earlier in the tournament.

Sources close to Sri Lanka Cricket have confirmed Shanaka's involvement and indicated that the 32-year-old will be flying to India soon, pending final clearances. While Gujarat Titans haven’t made an official announcement yet, all signs point towards Shanaka stepping in to bolster the squad.

Phillips, who was purchased for ₹2 crore at the IPL 2025 mega-auction, didn’t feature in the playing XI this season. However, during a fielding stint against Sunrisers Hyderabad, he injured his groin and has since returned to New Zealand to recover. The Titans had held off on naming a replacement, but now seem ready to bring back a familiar face.

This would mark Shanaka’s second stint with the Gujarat-based franchise. He was part of their squad in the 2023 season and left a decent impression. More recently, he featured in the ILT20 where he scored 164 runs across 10 innings and also chipped in with four wickets.

Gujarat Titans are currently sitting pretty at second place on the points table with 8 points from six matches. Their next challenge is a home fixture against Delhi Capitals on April 19 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. With momentum on their side and Shanaka expected to join soon, GT look well placed to push deeper into the tournament.
