Jasprit Bumrah continues to etch his name into IPL history, and during Mumbai Indians’ clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Uppal, he hit another major milestone. The MI pacer now shares the record for the most wickets in the franchise’s history with none other than Lasith Malinga. Both legendary quicks have 170 wickets to their name for Mumbai Indians in the IPL.
While Malinga needed 122 matches to reach 170 wickets, Bumrah got there in 138 games. But that’s not all — the 30-year-old also reached another big landmark in the same match. He became the fastest Indian to pick up 300 wickets in T20 cricket, getting there in just 237 innings. That puts him behind only Andrew Tye (208) and Malinga (217) globally in terms of speed to the milestone. Bumrah is now the second Indian fast bowler to hit the 300-wicket mark in T20s, joining Bhuvneshwar Kumar at the top of the list. Overall, he’s the fourth Indian to achieve the feat, alongside Yuzvendra Chahal and Piyush Chawla.
His 300th T20 wicket was a big one too — he dismissed Heinrich Klaasen, who was looking dangerous with a half-century under his belt. That breakthrough helped MI bowl SRH out for just 143 in 20 overs.
Bumrah has been the heartbeat of MI's bowling attack since making his debut in 2013. He’s played a huge part in all five of Mumbai’s title-winning seasons — 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020. His IPL tally includes two four-wicket hauls and two five-wicket hauls. The only season he missed was 2023 due to a back injury.
