Rohit Sharma Becomes Second Leading Run-Getter in IPL History

Rohit Sharma has once again etched his name into the IPL history books. In a high-voltage clash against Chennai Super Kings, the Mumbai Indians opener became the second-highest run-scorer in IPL history, surpassing Shikhar Dhawan’s tally of 6729 runs. With this achievement, Rohit now trails only Virat Kohli.

Rohit now has 6786 runs in 264 IPL matches, edging ahead of Dhawan, who has scored 6769 runs in 221 innings. At the top of the pile remains Virat Kohli, who has amassed a staggering 8326 runs in 260 matches. For a long time, it was Suresh Raina who dominated this list, before Kohli took over following Raina’s retirement. 

As for the game itself, it was a statement knock from Rohit — just when his team needed it. After a slow start to the season, the former MI captain bounced back with a fluent innings that not only helped his side beat CSK but also made it three wins in a row for Mumbai. Rohit looked completely in control and found a solid partner in Suryakumar Yadav, who blazed a 30-ball 68. The pair added 114 runs together, ripping through CSK’s bowling attack and setting up a comfortable chase. 

Speaking after the match, Rohit reflected on how he stayed grounded through a tough start. “After being here for such a long period of time, it's easy to start doubting yourself and start doing different things. For me, it was important to do simple things and have a clear mindset,” he said. “It was important for me to hold my shape and extend my arms, and when the ball was in my area, I had to do what I have been doing.” 

Beyond Rohit and Kohli, the list of IPL’s top run-getters is filled with elite Indian names. David Warner is the only non-Indian in the top five, sitting at fourth with 6565 runs, while Suresh Raina rounds off the list with 5528 runs.
