Sunil Narine Creates History with Most T20 Wickets for a Single Team

Sunil Narine was once again at the heart of the action as Kolkata Knight Riders secured a hard-fought 14-run win over Delhi Capitals on Tuesday night at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. It was KKR’s fourth victory of the IPL 2025 season, and Narine’s all-round brilliance proved to be the difference.

With the ball, Narine was ice-cold under pressure. He finished with superb figures of 3 for 29 from his four overs, completely stifling Delhi’s middle order just when they looked like they were gaining momentum. Chasing 205, Delhi got off to a decent start and at one stage looked well on track. But Narine changed the script with three massive breakthroughs — removing Axar Patel, Tristan Stubbs, and Faf du Plessis — all at crucial moments. Once again, it was Narine’s calm head and crafty spin that dragged KKR back into the contest when things were slipping.

The veteran all-rounder was also handed the captaincy midway through the game after Ajinkya Rahane picked up an injury in the 12th over. But even with the added responsibility, Narine didn’t flinch. He led with composure and helped his side shut the door on a potential DC comeback. Besides that, Tuesday’s performance wasn’t just another match-winning effort — it also pushed Narine into elite territory in T20 cricket. His three wickets took his tally for KKR to 208, putting him level with Samit Patel for the most wickets taken for a single team in men’s T20s. With Patel now retired, Narine is all but guaranteed to top that list soon.

To put that into context, Chris Wood comes next with 199 wickets for Hampshire, while Lasith Malinga sits behind them with 195 for Mumbai Indians. Out of Narine’s 208 wickets for KKR, 190 have come in 186 IPL matches, with the remaining 18 picked up in nine Champions League T20 outings. Even as KKR’s playoff hopes hang in the balance, one thing remains clear — Sunil Narine continues to be the spine of this team. With ball in hand and now with the armband too, he’s still finding ways to deliver when it matters most.
