Tottenham Eye Eberechi Eze Deal with Son’s Future Uncertain

Tottenham Hotspur are once again eyeing Eberechi Eze as they search for a new wide forward this summer, with the Crystal Palace star back on the radar at just the right time.

New Spurs boss Thomas Frank has made it clear he wants to bring in a wide attacker, and the club has already made moves. A £65 million-plus bid has gone in for Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, and Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo has also been sounded out. But Eze, a long-term Spurs target, remains firmly in the mix—and this time, things could get serious.

Spurs considered a move for Eze last summer, but Palace chairman Steve Parish later admitted he was surprised no formal offers came in. After a stellar 2024-25 campaign—where Eze played a huge role in Palace's FA Cup triumph and their late push for European football—it’s hard to see top clubs holding back again. The 26-year-old has a £68 million release clause in his current deal, and in today’s inflated market, that’s looking like a decent price for a player of his quality and versatility. Palace are determined to keep hold of him, but they might not have much of a choice if the clause is triggered—especially since Eze’s contract enters its final two years at the end of June.

Interestingly, there are reports suggesting that Palace would be open to letting him go if the clause is met in a structured deal. They're said to be asking for £25 to £30 million upfront, with the remaining £30 to £35 million paid in two instalments. There’s also an additional £8 million in performance-related bonuses built into the release clause, similar to the deal that saw Michael Olise join Bayern Munich. So, while Palace aren’t in a rush to sell, they may need to consider flexible payment terms if they want to get the best guaranteed value for their star man.

For Spurs, it’s shaping up to be a big summer. Mathys Tel has already arrived permanently, but there could still be major outgoings. Club captain Son Heung-min continues to be linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League, and if that deal gains momentum, it could open the door for someone like Eze to come in and play a central role in a refreshed Spurs attack. Tottenham have admired Eze for years—but this summer, with the stars aligning and the need for a new creative outlet clear, they might finally make their move.
