Ben Stokes has been spotted in Mumbai, sparking a wave of speculation among fans about his possible connection to Mumbai Indians. According to reports, the England Test captain, who’s currently nursing an injury, has arrived in the city to meet with MI officials — and more specifically, with Akash Ambani, son of MI owner Mukesh Ambani.
Naturally, that meeting set off plenty of rumors. Some fans even wondered if Stokes might be gearing up for a surprise appearance in IPL 2025, especially after a video surfaced showing him stepping into a car sporting a Haryana number plate and a Mumbai Indians logo. However, the truth behind Stokes’ visit is far less dramatic.

It turns out the 33-year-old all-rounder was simply in town for a promotional shoot with KL Rahul for Red Bull. Stokes, who previously represented Rising Pune Supergiants, Rajasthan Royals, and Chennai Super Kings in the IPL, had opted out of the 2025 auction to focus on managing his body ahead of a packed year for England, with Test series against India and Australia on the horizon.
Besides, even if MI wanted to bring him in, it wouldn’t have been that straightforward. Players who didn’t register for the IPL auction can’t just be signed as replacements mid-season — they must be picked from the Registered Available Player Pool (RAPP), unless special exceptions are made by the BCCI Technical Committee.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Indians will have their focus firmly set on their next challenge — a big clash against Lucknow Super Giants at Wankhede Stadium on Sunday, April 27. Hardik Pandya’s side will be hoping to grab another win and strengthen their playoff push.
