Bihar’s Vaibhav Suryavanshi Bags ₹10 Lakh Reward From CM Nitish Kumar After Record-Breaking IPL Century

After lighting up the IPL with one of the most jaw-dropping knocks in the tournament’s history, 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi has now earned a handsome reward from his home state. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has announced a cash prize of ₹10 lakh for the teenage sensation following his historic century against Gujarat Titans at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Monday.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Kumar fondly recalled meeting Vaibhav and his father back in 2024. He expressed pride in the youngster’s incredible rise and said he hopes Vaibhav continues to bring glory to Indian cricket. “Congratulations and best wishes to Vaibhav Suryavanshi of Bihar, who became the youngest player (14 years) to score a century in the history of IPL. He has become a new hope for Indian cricket as a result of his hard work and talent. Everyone is proud of him,” the Chief Minister wrote. “I met Mr Vaibhav Suryavanshi and his father in 2024, and at that time, I wished him a bright future. After his brilliant performance in IPL, I also congratulated him over the phone. Vaibhav Suryavanshi, a young cricketer from Bihar, will also be given a prize money of Rs 10 lakh by the state government. I wish that Vaibhav creates new records for the Indian team in the future and brings glory to the country.”

Vaibhav’s innings was nothing short of magical. Walking out with intent and fearlessness well beyond his years, he smashed a 35-ball century against an experienced Gujarat Titans bowling unit that collectively boasted nearly 700 international caps. That knock made him the youngest player ever to score a century in T20 cricket and the second-fastest centurion in IPL history — only behind Chris Gayle’s 30-ball blitz back in 2013.

He brought up his ton in style with a six off Rashid Khan, and his rampage included 11 sixes — the most in an IPL innings by an Indian. Eventually, it took a pinpoint yorker from Prasidh Krishna to end his innings at 101 off 38 balls. But by then, he had already taken the game — and the cricketing world — by storm.

For Rajasthan Royals, who are languishing in the lower half of the table, Vaibhav has been one of the very few bright spots. His debut, which began with a six off his very first ball in the league, now feels like a sign of the madness and magic that was to follow. The buzz around him is only growing, and with this performance, the 14-year-old has announced himself as a genuine prodigy to watch. As the season rolls on, eyes will continue to follow the young boy from Bihar — who, with every fearless swing of the bat, is writing a story that might just become one of Indian cricket’s most thrilling chapters.
