After a hugely successful debut season, the Corporate Premier League is back for its second edition. The organizers have vowed to make it even bigger and more exciting than before, and if the action of Quarterfinals is anything to go by, they’re certainly delivering on that promise.
The 1st quarterfinal of CPL 2 saw a high-scoring thriller unfold as Shiva Warriors outclassed Cric Mafia by 35 runs to book their place in the semifinals. Batting first, Shiva Warriors piled up a massive total of 252 for 8 in 20 overs, thanks to a sensational century from Priyanshu. The opener was in devastating form, smashing 104 runs with 7 fours and 10 sixes, setting the tone for the innings. He got solid support from Gulzar, who played a blinder late in the innings—blasting 40 off just 12 balls at a jaw-dropping strike rate of 333.33—to push the Warriors past the 250 mark.
In response, Cric Mafia made a bold attempt to chase down the steep target. Sachin Chechi led the charge with a whirlwind 85 from 37 balls, keeping hopes alive. Rahul Gupta chipped in with a well-made 64, but the rest of the batting lineup couldn’t keep up with the required rate. Cric Mafia ended their innings at 217 for 7, falling short by 35 runs. Shiva Warriors' bowling effort was anchored by Bhanu, who delivered a brilliant spell under pressure. He picked up 4 wickets for just 24 runs in his four overs, which also included a rare maiden in a T20 knockout clash.
Reinspirar Riders delivered a powerhouse performance in the 2nd quarterfinal of CPL 2, cruising to a nine-wicket victory over Pankshi Infratech to become the second team to qualify for the semifinals. Batting first, Pankshi Infratech never quite found their rhythm. Ravindar Singh gave them a brisk start with a solid 43 off just 25 balls, and Kishan Tomar added a quick-fire 25 from 13 deliveries to push the total forward. But despite these flashes of brilliance, wickets kept falling at regular intervals. The Reinspirar Riders' bowlers maintained pressure throughout, never allowing Pankshi to settle.
Lucky led the charge with the ball, picking up three wickets in his four overs, though he was slightly expensive, conceding 45 runs. CP and Manish Bhati also chipped in with two wickets apiece, helping keep the Pankshi total in check. The innings came to an end at 154 in 19.5 overs, a below-par score on a good batting surface.
Chasing 155, Riders came out all guns blazing. Mohit Chawla was in a league of his own, tearing into the Pankshi bowling attack with a blistering 91 off just 39 balls. His knock was laced with aggression and flair, effectively sealing the game well before the halfway stage. He was well supported by Vaibhav Singh, who played a steady hand with his 41 from 33 deliveries.
Together, the pair made light work of the chase, powering Riders to 155 in just 12.1 overs and sealing a commanding nine-wicket win. Their dominant display with the bat overshadowed Pankshi’s modest total and firmly established Reinspirar Riders as serious contenders heading into the semifinals.
Pranam Ji XI became the third team to seal a spot in the CPL 2 semifinals after comfortably defeating Primus Software by five wickets in the 3rd quarterfinal clash. Batting first, Primus Software posted 161 runs in 19.4 overs, largely riding on a superb innings from Jatin. The opener was in sublime touch, smashing 83 runs off just 43 deliveries, laced with 11 fours and 4 sixes. His innings gave Primus a strong platform, but lack of support from the rest of the batting order proved costly. Only Rohit Nain managed to provide any meaningful assistance, scoring a composed 34 from 28 balls. Once Jatin fell, the innings lost momentum quickly, with the side collapsing well before their full quota of overs.
Pranam Ji XI’s bowling was disciplined and effective. Ajay Gupta stood out with a three-wicket haul, conceding just 20 runs in his three-over spell. Abhishek Chaudhary was equally impressive, picking up two wickets while giving away only 14 runs in his four overs, choking the middle-order at a crucial stage.
In reply, Pranam Ji XI looked in control from the outset. Aakash Raina was the standout performer, hammering 71 runs off just 27 balls in a brutal display of clean hitting. His aggressive knock effectively took the game away from Primus early in the chase. Abhishek Chaudhary played the perfect supporting role, anchoring the innings with a steady 36 off 34 deliveries to ensure there were no hiccups.
Despite a couple of breakthroughs by Ramit Bajpai, who returned with figures of 2/26, Primus couldn’t do enough to stop the run flow. Pranam Ji XI chased down the 162-run target with 11 balls to spare, finishing on 165/5 in 18.1 overs.
Police Panthers stormed into the semifinals of CPL 2 with a dominant win over FirstDoor Realty (FDR) in the third quarterfinal, cruising to a nine-wicket victory in what turned out to be a completely one-sided contest.
Batting first, FDR put up a dismal show with the bat, folding for just 83 runs in 15.2 overs. The team never got going, with no batter able to cross the 20-run mark. Anoop Yadav top-scored with 19 off 13 balls, but the lack of support from the rest of the lineup left FDR reeling. It was a clinical bowling display from Police Panthers, with Sachin Choudhary stealing the spotlight. He bowled a devastating spell, picking up 5 wickets while conceding just 15 runs in his 3.2-over burst. Bhola Chaudhary chipped in with 3 wickets, while Upender Tomar added two more to dismantle the FDR innings.
With only 84 runs to chase, Police Panthers made light work of the target. Opener Rahul Chaudhary set the tone with a blistering 28 off 12 balls before falling to Jonty Bhai—the only success FDR managed in the entire innings. From there, Rahul Malik (27*) and Sukkhi (20*) made sure there were no further hiccups, finishing the game in just 5.5 overs. The emphatic win underlined Police Panthers’ strength and form as they head into the semifinals. With both their bowling and batting firing on all cylinders, they now gear up for an exciting clash against Pranam Ji XI in the next round.
