Priyansh Arya Destroys CSK with Record-Breaking Century in Blistering Knock

Priyansh Arya just had a night to remember. Earlier today, the young Punjab Kings batter joined elite company by smashing a six off the very first ball of an IPL match – something only three others in the league’s history have done, including none other than Virat Kohli.

The 24-year-old southpaw from Delhi, who was snapped up for Rs 3.80 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction, announced himself in style against Chennai Super Kings in Mullanpur. And boy, did he make it count. Despite chaos unfolding at the other end, with PBKS losing wickets in a heap, Arya looked like he was playing a different game altogether. He went after the CSK bowlers right from the start and raced to a jaw-dropping hundred in just 39 balls. That’s now the joint-fourth-fastest century in IPL history and the fastest ever scored against CSK. However, none of the other PBKS top-six batters managed to get into double figures. 

He was eventually dismissed by Purple Cap holder Noor Ahmad in the 14th over, but by then, the damage was done. Arya walked off with 103 off 42 balls, an innings laced with seven boundaries and nine monstrous sixes. His century is now second only to David Miller’s 38-ball ton (vs RCB, 2013) in the Punjab Kings record books. Only Chris Gayle (30 balls), Yusuf Pathan (37), and Miller have scored faster IPL hundreds. Arya’s knock also matched Travis Head’s 39-ball effort, making him the joint-fourth fastest in the league’s history. 

To add to the milestones, he’s now just the eighth uncapped player to notch up an IPL century – joining names like Shaun Marsh, Manish Pandey, Paul Valthaty, Devdutt Padikkal, Rajat Patidar, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Prabhsimran Singh. With this innings, Arya’s tally for the season has shot up to 158 runs from four matches, at a blistering strike rate of 210.67. That was also his second T20 century overall. For a young gun just four games into his IPL journey, this was nothing short of a statement.
