RCB Create History – Becomes First Team in IPL History to Win All Away Matches

Royal Challengers Bengaluru have pulled off something never seen before in the 18-year history of the IPL — winning every single away game in a season that followed the traditional home-and-away format.

Their six-wicket victory over Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana Stadium wasn't just a thrilling finish to the league stage — it was their seventh away win in as many matches this season. That’s right, seven out of seven on the road. No other team in IPL history has done that. RCB kicked off their 2025 campaign with a comfortable 7-wicket win against defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens. From there, the Men in Red and Black went on a road rampage — toppling Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk, Mumbai Indians at Wankhede, Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur, Punjab Kings in Mullanpur, Delhi Capitals at Kotla, and finally LSG in Lucknow.

There was one blip at Ekana — a 42-run loss to Sunrisers Hyderabad — but that game had been shifted from Bengaluru’s Chinnaswamy due to weather concerns. So technically, that was a home fixture played at a neutral venue, and doesn’t count against their away record. In total, RCB won nine of their 14 matches and ended the league stage with 19 points. They finished second on the table for the first time since 2016, level on points with Punjab Kings but just behind on net run rate (0.30).

To put their away streak in context, only two other teams — Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders — have won seven away games in a single season, both in 2012. But each of them lost one match on the road. RCB now stand alone at the top of that chart. Here’s how the top five stack up for most away wins in an IPL season:

  • RCB – 7/7 in 2025
  • MI – 7/8 in 2012
  • KKR – 7/8 in 2012
  • Gujarat Titans – 6/7 in 2023
  • Delhi Daredevils – 6/8 in 2012

Back at the Chinnaswamy, RCB’s form was mixed. They beat CSK and RR, lost to GT, DC, and PBKS, and had their game against KKR washed out. Still, their away dominance more than made up for it. Now, having made the most of their road trips, RCB will shift focus to the playoffs — and perhaps finally, their elusive first IPL title.
