Rishabh Pant Fined ₹30 Lakh for Slow Over-Rate as BCCI Sanctions Entire LSG Squad

Rishabh Pant finally found his batting mojo in IPL 2025 – but it came on a night that ended with mixed emotions. The Lucknow Super Giants skipper smashed an unbeaten 118 off just 61 balls, breaking free from a string of low scores and powering his team to a mammoth 227/3 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. But the joy was short-lived.

RCB, who needed a win to avoid the Eliminator and secure a top-two finish, made a mockery of the chase. They hunted down the target in just 18.4 overs, winning by six wickets and sealing a spot in Qualifier 1. For Pant, it was a personal high overshadowed by team disappointment. To make matters worse, Pant was hit with a hefty ₹30 lakh fine for a slow over-rate – the third time LSG have been guilty of the offence this season. That’s why the fine was steeper than the usual ₹12 lakh, which is the standard penalty for a first-time violation.

“Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain Rishabh Pant has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match No. 70 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow on Tuesday," said a BCCI statement on Wednesday. It added, "As it was his team’s third offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Rishabh Pant was fined INR 30 Lakh." The rest of the LSG playing XI, including the Impact Player, were each docked ₹12 lakh or 50% of their match fee – whichever is lower.

As for the match, Pant’s sparkling century wasn’t enough. RCB pulled off the third-highest successful run chase in IPL history, thanks to a brilliant 107-run stand between Mayank Agarwal and Jitesh Sharma. That partnership saw RCB breeze to 230/4 – the highest successful chase ever at the Ekana Stadium.

It’s also only the third time RCB have chased a 200-plus total, but perhaps more impressively, they’ve now won every single away game this season – a record in itself. The result meant Punjab Kings stayed top of the table, while RCB jumped to second. They’ll now take on Punjab in Qualifier 1 on Thursday. Gujarat Titans slipped to third and will face Mumbai Indians in the Eliminator on Friday.
