Riyan Parag Makes History, Becomes First Batter to Hit 6 Sixes in 6 Balls in IPL

Riyan Parag created history at Eden Gardens, becoming the first player in IPL history to smash six sixes off six consecutive legal deliveries. The Rajasthan Royals batter pulled off this stunning feat during their run chase against the Kolkata Knight Riders, going past the likes of Chris Gayle, Kieron Pollard, and Rinku Singh — all of whom had managed five sixes in a row in the past. And funnily enough, all those fireworks came during the second innings of their respective matches too.

It all kicked off in the 13th over with RR struggling at 102 for 5, chasing a massive 207. Shimron Hetmyer took a single off the first ball from Moeen Ali, and then Parag went berserk. He launched the next four deliveries deep into the stands over long-on and square leg, and when Moeen tried to avoid his hitting arc with a wide, it only delayed the inevitable. Parag clobbered the next legal delivery over long-off for his fifth six of the over. In the very next over, Hetmyer once again took a single off the first ball — and Parag reverse-swept Varun Chakravarthy over backward point to complete six consecutive sixes. Eden Gardens had never seen anything like it.

Parag’s record-breaking fireworks put him in elite company. While several batters have managed five sixes in an over — including Gayle (RCB vs PWI, 2012), Rahul Tewatia (RR vs PBKS, 2020), Ravindra Jadeja (CSK vs RCB, 2021), Rinku Singh (KKR vs GT, 2023), and now Parag himself (RR vs KKR, 2025) — none had ever made it six in the IPL. That record now firmly belongs to Riyan Parag

Despite the onslaught, RR couldn’t cross the line. The Royals were cruising after Parag’s blitz but collapsed under pressure yet again. Shimron Hetmyer and the Royals captain both fell soon after, and the momentum evaporated. Parag, trying to keep RR in the hunt, went for another big one in the 18th over but was caught by Vaibhav off Nitish Rana’s bowling. It was a cruel twist for a side that’s made a habit of throwing away winning positions — this was their fourth such collapse of the season, and their ninth loss overall.

In T20 internationals, only Yuvraj Singh, Kieron Pollard, and Dipendra Singh Airee have achieved the rare feat of hitting six sixes in a single over. But in the IPL, Parag has just set a new benchmark — even if it came in a losing cause.
