Yuzvendra Chahal produced one of the most jaw-dropping moments of IPL 2025, grabbing four wickets in a single over — including a hat-trick — to flip the script on Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk. With CSK cruising towards 200, Chahal stepped up in the 19th over and turned the game on its head.
It was a masterclass in composure and skill. MS Dhoni had just clobbered him for a six to start the over, but the leg-spinner held his nerve and got the CSK legend out — for the fourth time in IPL history. What followed was pure drama: Deepak Hooda, Anshul Kamboj, and Noor Ahmad all fell in quick succession, sealing a memorable hat-trick.
Chahal has now joined an elite club of bowlers with more than one IPL hat-trick, alongside Amit Mishra (3) and Yuvraj Singh (2). But there’s more — he became the first bowler ever to take a hat-trick for two different IPL teams. His previous one came back in 2022 while playing for Rajasthan Royals against KKR. And yes, he’s also now the first to claim a hat-trick against CSK in IPL history. To top it off, this was Chepauk’s first hat-trick since Lakshmipathy Balaji’s iconic one back in 2008.
The Chahal vs Dhoni battle has become a fascinating subplot in IPL over the years. In 16 innings, Chahal has dismissed Dhoni four times, conceding 108 runs in 82 balls — with 8 sixes and 3 fours. But perhaps what’s most telling is Chahal’s ability to keep Dhoni in check with 29 dot balls. As for the match, CSK went from 184 for 5 to 190 all out in a span of just seven balls. Sam Curran played a stunning hand with 88 off 47, threatening to take the game away — but it was Chahal who stole the spotlight. He ended with figures of 4 for 32 in just three overs.
