Suryakumar Yadav Reaches 4000-Run Milestone in IPL

Suryakumar Yadav added another major milestone to his growing list of achievements in the IPL, becoming the fastest Indian to reach 4000 runs in the league’s history. The Mumbai Indians star brought up the landmark in style during Match 45 of IPL 2025 against Lucknow Super Giants at the Wankhede Stadium, smashing a boundary off Avesh Khan to get there.

Heading into the game, Suryakumar needed just 33 runs to hit the 4000 mark, and he wasted little time in ticking it off. His boundary in the 13th over saw him become the third fastest overall to reach the milestone, doing it in just 2714 balls. Only AB de Villiers (2658 balls) and Chris Gayle (2658 balls) got there quicker. Surya left behind some big names too — he reached 4000 runs faster than Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, David Warner, and Suresh Raina, a group he’s now rubbing shoulders with.

At 34 years of age, Suryakumar continues to show why he's considered one of the most destructive batters in the game. His career strike rate now sits above 146 — the highest among Indian players who have crossed 4000 IPL runs. Globally, only de Villiers (151.68) and Gayle (148.96) boast a better strike rate in the elite 4000-run club, putting Surya in some truly elite company.

It wasn't just one milestone that Surya ticked off on the night. He also leapfrogged Mumbai Indians legend Kieron Pollard in the franchise’s all-time run charts. Now, along with Rohit Sharma and Pollard, he becomes just the third player to have scored over 3000 runs for Mumbai Indians. As if that wasn’t enough, he also brought up his 150th six in IPL cricket during the game

Suryakumar ended up playing a brilliant knock of 54 runs before Avesh Khan got the better of him in the 18th over. His innings was packed with four boundaries and four sixes — and by the time he walked back to the pavilion, he had also crossed the 400-run mark for the season. That makes him only the second player in IPL 2025 to achieve that feat, following Gujarat Titans’ Sai Sudharsan. It was yet another afternoon where Suryakumar showed why he’s one of the biggest match-winners in the IPL — stylish, ruthless, and with a habit of rewriting records almost every time he walks out to bat.
