Virat Kohli Achieves 13,000-Run Milestone in T20 Cricket

Virat Kohli just added another major milestone to his glittering career — 13,000 runs in T20 cricket. He reached the landmark during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s IPL 2025 clash against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede on Monday night.

Kohli, now 36, got to the milestone when he was on 17 runs during his innings. He becomes the first Indian to ever cross 13,000 runs in T20s and only the fifth batter in the world to do it. Even more impressive? He got there in just his 386th innings, making him the second-fastest to the milestone behind the legendary Chris Gayle, who did it in 381 innings. Kohli left Alex Hales way behind, getting there nearly 90 innings faster than the English batter. He had previously become the second-fastest to 12,000 T20 runs last year, again trailing only Gayle, hitting that mark in just 360 innings. Among Indian batters, Rohit Sharma comes next, with 11,851 runs in 438 innings.

Kohli’s T20 journey started way back on April 3, 2007, when he debuted for Delhi against Himachal Pradesh in the domestic Inter-State T20 tournament — now known as the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He scored 35 in that match, and since then, he hasn’t looked back. Over 8,000 of his T20 runs have come in the IPL alone, where he continues to sit on top of the all-time scoring charts for Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

As for his form this season, Kohli began IPL 2025 with an unbeaten 59 against Kolkata Knight Riders. He followed it up with 31 against CSK, though he struggled a bit with his timing in that game. A rare off-day saw him get out for just 7 against GT. So far, he’s chalked up 97 runs in three matches. RCB, meanwhile, have had a strong start to the season. They opened their campaign with a dominant 7-wicket win over KKR, and followed it up with a 50-run thumping of CSK, but their momentum took a slight hit with an 8-wicket loss to GT. Still, they sit third on the points table. And with a win over MI, they could climb straight to the top — which would be a statement early in the tournament.
