Jarell Quansah Nearing £35m Leverkusen Move as Liverpool Eye Marc Guehi

Bayer Leverkusen are making a serious push to sign Liverpool’s young centre-back Jarell Quansah, while the Reds are keeping tabs on Crystal Palace captain Marc Guéhi in case they need a replacement.

Leverkusen’s interest in the 22-year-old Quansah is completely separate from the headline-grabbing £116 million deal they've reportedly struck to sell Florian Wirtz to Liverpool. Talks between the two clubs over Quansah are moving forward, and according to Fabrizio Romano, the German side could reach an agreement with Liverpool within the next 48 hours. Romano posted on X, “Jarell Quansah deal can be agreed in the next 24/48h as Bayer Leverkusen and Liverpool are at final stages of negotiations. Quansah already said yes; understand final fee can be around £30m plus £5m add-ons.”

Despite the ongoing discussions, Liverpool aren’t actively trying to push Quansah out. He’s still held in high regard at the club and signed a fresh deal just last season. But with just 488 minutes of Premier League action last season, Quansah is open to the idea of a move that offers more game time — something Leverkusen are happy to provide. The club sees him as a direct replacement for Jonathan Tah, who recently made the switch to Bayern Munich.

Importantly, Quansah's potential transfer is being handled independently of the Wirtz deal, with Leverkusen treating each move on its own terms. The German side, who have also sold Jeremie Frimpong to Liverpool for £29.5 million, would prefer to keep the price reasonable, but Liverpool are expected to hold out for a total fee closer to £35–40 million including add-ons.

Liverpool targeting Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi

Liverpool’s centre-back situation feels increasingly uncertain. Club captain Virgil van Dijk has signed a two-year extension, but Ibrahima Konaté is entering the final year of his contract and negotiations over a renewal haven’t gained much traction. Spanish media recently linked Real Madrid with a possible move for the Frenchman, especially if he becomes a free agent next summer.

That’s why Liverpool have turned their attention toward Marc Guéhi. The Crystal Palace defender has been on their radar for a while and could be brought in should Quansah leave. However, the Reds' level of interest will hinge on Palace’s demands. Last summer, the Eagles reportedly rejected four bids from Newcastle, with the last one touching £65 million.

Guéhi now has just 12 months left on his contract, meaning Palace risk losing him for nothing next summer if they don’t cash in now. That puts Liverpool in a strong negotiating position, and if a deal can’t be struck in this window, they might wait to sign him on a free next year. The decision may ultimately rest on two things: how much Leverkusen are willing to pay for Quansah, and whether Palace are willing to drop their price for Guéhi. Until then, it’s all about patience and keeping their options open.
