Liverpool are on the verge of adding another exciting name to their squad, with Milos Kerkez expected to undergo a medical soon ahead of a £40 million move from Bournemouth. After weeks of negotiations, reports from Sky Germany confirm that both clubs have now reached full agreement, and the Hungarian full-back is set to sign a long-term contract with the Reds.
The deal looked uncertain at one point, with talks stalling over the fee. Bournemouth were holding firm on their valuation, but Liverpool have now met their demands. Personal terms are also wrapped up, and the medical is scheduled for next week. Transfer insider Fabrizio Romano backed up the news with a classic “here we go,” writing on X: “BREAKING: Milos Kerkez to Liverpool, here we go! Plan from May confirmed as it’s all agreed between clubs. £40m transfer fee, long term deal and Kerkez set for medical in the upcoming days. Kerkez to Liverpool, never in doubt.”
The move had been an open secret for a while—Kerkez’s own father recently hinted that everything was already agreed and that his son was ready for the next step. With Bournemouth signing Rennes full-back Adrien Truffert for £14.3 million as a replacement, all signs point to this deal being sealed soon.
Kerkez arrived at Bournemouth in July 2023 from AZ Alkmaar for around £15.5 million and made an immediate impact. Over two seasons, he racked up 67 appearances and was a constant presence under Andoni Iraola, starting all 38 Premier League matches in the 2024–25 campaign. With that kind of durability and consistency, it’s no surprise Liverpool have identified him as the long-term successor to Andy Robertson.
The Hungarian has all the attributes Arne Slot will value in a modern full-back. Slot may not play the exact brand of high-octane football Jurgen Klopp did, but his style still demands aggression, intensity, and positional discipline. Kerkez ticks every box.
Statistically, he was one of the standout defenders in the Premier League last season. His 169 ball recoveries ranked fifth among defenders—and higher than any Liverpool player. He also won possession 11 times in the attacking third, which is ninth best in the league and again, more than any current Red managed. Creatively, Kerkez isn’t far off Liverpool’s top full-backs either. He created 34 chances from open play (seventh among defenders), notched five assists (joint-fourth), and completed 142 crosses (sixth most, just behind Robertson and Alexander-Arnold). His eight big chances created were only behind Trent amongst Liverpool defenders.
When it comes to pushing the ball forward, Kerkez is no slouch either. His 476 passes into the final third put him tenth among defenders in the league. He also completed 22 dribbles—more than any Liverpool defender managed last season. While he’s still just 21, his stats and performances already place him among the most productive full-backs in the league. In a system that rewards energy, positioning, and attacking flair from defenders, Kerkez looks ready to make the leap at Anfield.
Arne Slot has already made a splash in the transfer market, with Jeremie Frimpong arriving from Bayer Leverkusen and Florian Wirtz also expected to join soon. But the Kerkez signing may prove just as important, especially with Robertson now in his thirties. If all goes according to plan next week, Liverpool will officially unveil their newest full-back—one who could define the left side of their defense for years to come.
