Manchester City look set to land one of Norway’s brightest young stars, with a deal for Rosenborg midfielder Sverre Nypan reportedly all but done. The 18-year-old has been chased by several top European clubs, but now appears to be on his way to the Etihad in a move worth around €15 million — a record fee for a player from the Norwegian league.
Nypan had previously attracted serious interest from the likes of Arsenal, Aston Villa, and Girona. Arsenal even hosted the teenager in London earlier this year, while Villa flew to Norway to present their plans for him. But despite their best efforts, they couldn’t seal the deal. Instead, it was City who managed to win over both the player and his family.

With new director of football Hugo Viana leading the charge, City have wasted no time refreshing their squad this summer. Nypan would be their fifth signing already, following the arrivals of Rayan Ait-Nouri, Marcus Bettinelli, Rayan Cherki, and Tijjani Reijnders — all coming in ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup later this month.
While Nypan is heading to City, he isn’t expected to stay put just yet. Instead, he’s likely to be sent out on loan for the upcoming season to continue his development, with Girona the most probable destination. The Spanish side, also owned by the City Football Group, have kept a close eye on the midfielder since January and are reportedly excited about the possibility of finally bringing him in.
Nypan already has 70 senior appearances for Rosenborg under his belt, an impressive feat for someone so young. The Norwegian side currently sit third in the Eliteserien, and the teenager has been a standout figure for them.
City fans may not see him in the sky blue shirt immediately, but there’s a lot of excitement about what Nypan could bring to the club in the long run. If he continues on this trajectory, the €15 million may end up looking like a bargain.
